The original reward offered for details about the 34-year-old Royersford fugitive's whereabouts was a combined $10,000, by the US Marshals, local, and state law enforcement. On Sept. 7, that total was increased to $20,000, according to state police.
The convicted killer has been spotted on trail cameras in the woods of Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square with a backpack and a grey hoodie, which led to school closures as police created a perimeter to search for him.
In an update on Thursday, authorities said they received word of another possible sighting near Longwood Gardens, in the same area of the trail cameras just before noon.
He is still believed to be in the expanded search perimeter outlined by state police earlier this week, bound by Route 926 on the north side, Creek Road on the east, Hillendale Road to the south, and Route 52 on the west.
"I have every reason to believe he's still in that perimeter," PSP Lt. Col. George Bivens told reporters Thursday.
At a press conference on Wednesday, Sept. 6, residents were urged to secure any outbuildings and vehicles, as the fugitive has "clearly already obtained clothing and other supplies" while on the run, Bivens said.
Cavalcante was sentenced to life in prison last month for the fatal stabbing of his ex-girlfriend, 33-year-old Deborah Brandao.
He was being housed in the Chester County Prison, where he snuck past security early on Thursday, Aug. 31, said authorities, who this week released footage of Cavalcante's daring escape.
This may not have Cavalcante's first killing, as he is also a suspect in a 2017 murder in Brazil, according to the Chester County District Attorney.
Details about his escape were recently shared by the Acting Prison Warden Howard Holland, who said the fugitive was seen on camera scaling a wall in an outdoor exercise yard to gain access to the roof and flee.
He is described as 5 feet tall and 120 pounds with brown eyes and "shaggy black curly hair." Cavalcante is a Brazilian national who speaks Spanish and Portuguese but only some English, and was last wearing a white T-shirt, gray shorts, and white shoes, they added.
Anyone with information on his whereabouts is urged to call 911, US Marshals at 1-877-WANTED2, PSP Command Post at (610) 344-4691 or (610) 344-4690, or anonymously contact the Pennsylvania Crime Stoppers Toll-Free at 1-800-4PA-TIPS (8477), or online at https://www.p3tips.com/tipform.aspx?ID=107 or usmarshals.gov/tips.
